THREE family members died on spot and burnt beyond recognition in an accident that also claimed three other lives.
The accident occurred when a Nissan UD collided head on with a Toyota Wish at the 93 km peg along Harare – Mutare road.
Both vehicles caught fire on impact on Sunday 02:00 hours.
Police have since identified four of the six deceased as Jesmine Gotekote, Pride Gotekote and Tadiwa Gotekote all from Mazarura Village in Nyanga.
The other is Port Mavavarirwa of Kambuzuma Section 3.
Police said DNA tests would be conducted to positively identify the other two.
The driver of the Nissan UD is said to have encroached into the lane of the Toyota Wish resulting in the tragedy.
National Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident and urged motorists to be cautious on the road especially during the wee hours.
“This is a sad incident which happened on the roads and we are encouraging motorists to avoid driving during these hours where one would be weary or tired.
“This rainy season is now upon us and roads will be slippery so we again appeal to all drivers to exercises extreme caution on the road,” explained Ass Comm Nyathi.
