POLICE in Nyabira have busted a suspected cattle rustling syndicate involving an abattoir owner.
Stobart Ballaro Micheal Douglas, who is linked to Carswell Meats, was arrested yesterday in Nyabira together with three others.
Last night he was in police custody assisting with investigations.
Police yesterday confirmed the arrest of Douglas saying he was found with three stolen beasts.
“We confirm the arrest of a suspect who was found with three cattle which were suspected to have been stolen.
“Three others were also arrested in connection of stock theft,” said Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyati.
Ass Comm Nyati said police were looking for another suspect in connection with the matter.
He said Douglas is believed to have bought the cattle from a George Chinyowa.
“The cattle were left at Barwick Farm … a tip off to the police led to the recovery of the cattle,” Ass Comm Nyati said.
Ass Comm Nyati urged members of the public not to buy cattle without necessary verifications and paperwork.
“Members of the public are urged to buy cattle after the beasts have undergone proper vetting where paper work is also availed.
“They should verify with the police before buying cattle and ensure that all necessary paperwork is in place,” said Ass Comm Nyati.
