Rising Afro fusion artist, Nyasha Zhoya, is destined for stardom.
Blessed with a wondrous voice and strong song writing skills, the songbird is determined to make a mark.
Nyasha opened up to our H-Metro reporter on her vision and plans for the year.
HR: Who is Nyasha Zhoya?
NZ: Nyasha Zhoya is a young female songwriter, performing and recording artist with smooth vocals and a afro jazz fusion musician from Glendale
HR: How did you kick-start your music career?
NZ: I started my music carrier at the age of 12, and started recording in 2017. I also released an EP called Bembera in 2020.
HR: What inspires your music?
NZ: I was a backing vocalist for Feli Nandi and hope to be as iconic as the late Dr Oliver Mtukudzi.
HR: Who is your role model?
NZ: It would definitely be Chiwoniso Maraire and Tuku.
HR: What challenges did you face in your career?
NZ: Exposure, it’s not easy to get music played on radio and television when you’re starting. Finances are hard to come by at times. I would like to have a proper professional set up with a manager and a promoter.
HR: What have you achieved so far?
NZ: I have managed to record an album, and did some interviews on 3KTV, Power FM and Radio Zimbabwe.
HR: What are your future prospects?
NZ: I hope to build a big brand in Zimbabwe and continue with a Zimbabwean music identity feel.
HR: Any message to young aspiring musicians?
NZ: I’d say keep pushing, never get tired of your dreams. One day everything will fall into place.
