LOT Chiunga said it is a miracle he is still playing football in the domestic Premiership after the injury challenges which forced him into retirement in the past.
The 37-year-old forward was the hero as the Green Machine bounced back from the miserable defeat at the hands of Bikita Minerals with a comprehensive win over newboys Arenel Movers at Rufaro.
Chiunga struck in the 16th and 70th minutes to give CAPS a 2-0 lead before Brian Jaravaza reduced the arrears from the penalty spot in the 76th minute.
Ralph Kawondera then provided the insurance goal for CAPS.
“It’s a miracle for me to be playing for CAPS United,” said Chiunga.
“Remember I had already retired from football but God knows my destiny and I want to thank God for the goals and the way I played today and I also want to thank my teammates.
“The past two games we have been missing chances.
“The injury in 2019 devastated me a lot and I had to decide to leave football. I want to thank my wife, the prophets who stood with me, I went to Prophet Magaya and he prayed for me and told me I would be back on the field.
“I had lost hope, I was in pain and I never thought I would get such a Sunday offering (gifts from ecstatic fans) like the one I got today.”
His coach Lloyd Chitembwe said Chiunga was proving many doubters wrong.
“I just want to single out Lot. I am sure he will give us good performances. We always believed in him, we have always believed in his qualities, he is a big player and as far as I am concerned he only needed that love and that respect.
“Credit goes to Lot, he is a guy who has taken so much flak from people when they talk about his age.
“He has show that age is nothing but a number.”
