THE long-waited Marume Classic, one of the country’s premier bodybuilding and fitness competitions, is back.

The event is the brainchild of Givemore Marume, one of the giant figures local bodybuilding, and will take place at the Zimbabwe College of Music tomorrow.

Among the categories are the Open, Junior Men, Men’s Physique, Men’s Fitness Open and the Women’s Bikini Open.

Nunurai Masosonere will defend his Marume Classic title.

The event has attracted bodybuilders from Zambia.

For the first time, in history, the event is going to have trained judges.

A facilitator from South Africa arrived in the country two weeks ago to train local judges.

Marume told H-Metro they were ready to take off after a two-year absence.

“We have received a positive response from the athletes.

“In our previous editions, we started on a high note and want to maintain that this year.

“We are very pleased with the athletes’ eagerness, as it matches past editions,” he said.

“All our stakeholders, including sponsors and athletes, are raring to go.

“When we started, some people doubted us, thinking we would flop, but we proved them wrong.

“Athletes are going to experience a different event from the previous ones because we have upgraded a lot of things.

“We have never had trained judges in our shows.

“But, this time around, we had an opportunity to bring in a facilitator from South Africa to train judges, so it will be interesting.”
