Paul Pindani in Chinhoyi
A Karoi ambulance which was transferring patients to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital, was involved in a fatal accident that killed five people on Wednesday night.
National Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told H-Metro that the police were investigating a fatal road accident which occurred at the 193 km peg along Harare-Chirundu road at around 8:30pm on Wednesday night.
He said four people died on the spot, while a pregnant woman later died on her way to Parirenyetwa Hospital.
Ass Comm Nyathi said two other people were injured when an ambulance which was travelling from Karoi to Chinhoyi with five occupants, including the driver, was involved in a collision with a truck.
“As a result, three people died on the spot while the other died upon admission at hospital. However, a pregnant woman also died yesterday on her way to Parirenyetwa hospital bringing the number of deaths to five,” said Ass Comm Nyathi.
“We are conducting investigations and at the same time urging drivers to avoid speeding and driving patiently while on the road, so that we don’t continue to record accidents which kill people.”
