…’Its the devil, evil spirits’
Four people died on the spot when a Toyota Allion was involved in a head on collision with a truck at Mupfure Bridge along Harare-Bulawayo yesterday.
The Toyota Alion plunged into the banks of Mupfure River as the driver lost control after the collision.
H-Metro crew arrived at the scene while some of the casualties were still wailing for help on the banks of the river.
Police details and fire brigade later arrived and retrieved the bodies.
The two injured people were taken to Chegutu hospital.
The driver of the truck, who refused to be named, spoke to H-Metro and said he was lucky to be alive.
He said he could not avoid the accident since it happened on the bridge as the other vehicle tried to overtake.
“The driver (of the other vehicle) tried to overtake on the bridge and there was no way to avoid it,” he said.
The accident saw traffic being blocked for more than three hours as the truck which remained on the road was lying across the bridge.
Scores of people disembarked from their vehicles to have a glimpse of the fatal accident.
The truck was later towed by a recovery truck and police details had to team up with military police to control traffic.
