CHICKEN Inn coach, Joey Antipas, has acknowledged Bulawayo Chiefs are no longer underdogs.

The Gamecocks beat the Ninjas 2-1 victory in a Castle Lager Premiership derby on Saturday.

Antipas’ men have now registered two back-to-back wins since the resumption of the Premiership after the Christmas and AFCON break.

Antipas’ troops silenced the Ninjas as they handed them their first Premiership defeat in their backyard.

Chicken Inn scored through Shephard Mhlanga and Brian Muza.

“It was really a good game, credit to Bulawayo Chiefs for coming to the party and making it a good spectacle for the fans,” said Antipas.

“The game was open and it was an end-to-end match.

“You have to be in your best form to take maximum points against Chiefs.

“I’m very happy for our back-to-back victories, I believe they will take us a long way.”

Antipas believes his charges are slowly getting to the level he wants them to be.

“We are getting there slowly, we had a good first half, we dominated after scoring.

“The second half, Bulawayo Chiefs came back strongly and put us under pressure.

“We managed the second half well,  we were relying on counter attacks and it worked.

“The Ninjas gave us some tight moments, they created a couple of good chances but our game management was on point.

“Overall, it was an important win for us, going forward it gives us the much-needed confidence,” said Antipas.

Chicken Inn have now collected nine points out of the possible 12.

The Gamecocks’ campaign was dented on their second fixture when they lost to FC Platinum.

They have since managed to find their grip back as evidenced with their recent form.
