Warriors coach Joey Antipas says the boys are ready to take on Lesotho in the CHAN 2020 qualifiers at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.
This will be the Chicken Inn’s coach second assignment since he took over from Sunday Chidzambwa.
“One thing is that the boys are trying to grasp the way we want them to play. We still need to polish up and we still need hard work to do to get ready for Sunday.
“The players are responding which is a positive thing.
“The combinations are coming up slowly but surely and I believe by Sunday we would’ve a team that will be ready to take on Lesotho, “he said.
Antipas says they should go into this game underrating their opponents.
“We know that Lesotho are not a push over so we have to go there with the right mentality, the right attitude and the willingness to win.
“We are playing against a team that has been together for some time now, World Cup qualifiers same time, COSAFA and AFCON qualifiers while we are trying to get our local based players together.
“But one thing I can say is that I know that the local based players will give their best. We are hoping to get a positive result and to check into the second leg.
“One thing for sure is that we cannot take Lesotho for granted because if you do that then that will be absurd, “he said.
“So we have to take them as a good side which they are. They could be a tiny mountain kingdom country but they have got talent there and they have shown what they can do.
“We’ve seen some snippets in the world cup qualifiers and in the CHAN.
“So we as coaches and also what the players need to know is we’ve got a game in our hands.”
Yadah Stars midfielder Leeroy Mavunga is ruled out for Sunday due to an injury and Dynamos striker Evans Katema had an elbow dislocation in yesterday’s training and might also be out.
“Regarding injuries, it just could be Evans he had a dislocation on the elbow but he is assessment. But the rest of the guys are okay.
“Maybe Leeroy Mavunga will be out because he has an ankle problem. He has been having this ankle injury for some time now
“I hope Evans will recover because he can give the play a part. We are expecting to play the final 18 tomorrow, “he said.
Antipas has pleaded with fans to come and rally behind the team.
“Talking about pressure we could be under pressure, either way. But still we are starting at home I think we should take advantage of playing at home.
“Home advantage always counts so we have to try and use that advantage
“We are asking the fans backing since we are at home. They should be patriotic and come and support the team.
“Let’s come out in our numbers and support the team whole heartedly because they are the 12th man and when the 12th man support you, you won’t go wrong, “he said.
The 27 man team trooped into camp on Tuesday and the final 18 is expected to be announced today.
