HARARE City coach Moses “Bambo” Chunga is in a player crisis!
From their 30 registered players, four have injuries, two are suspended, two have been inactive while another two players lost during transfer window have not been replaced.
That leaves Bambo with 20 registered players at his disposal with three of them being goalkeepers.
From the 17 infield players, he will shift some players to positions they do not normally play while he will rely heavily on the junior players to try and beat Highlanders at Rufaro tomorrow.
“Tanaka Ruzvidzo, Munyaridzi Diro Nyenye, Crispen Dickson and Arnold Chivheya all have injuries. We did not replace Blessing Moyo and Francisco Zekumbawira when they moved. Themba has been inactive while for Tendai Samanja it has been on and off,” said Bambo.
He added: “It never rains but pours. Just when we thought we had a better team, we have two key players suspended for the game, Martin Vengesayi and Farai Madhananga. It becomes tough.”
Chances are high at least three or four of Harare City’s Under 20 players will start against Erol Akbay’s side.
“In life if you do not face challenges, you don’t become effective. This makes my brain tick.
“Sometimes, during the afternoon, I sleep for 30 minutes to an hour and when I wake up, I have solutions for everything and it is a routine,” said Bambo.
Harare City are coming from an impressive 4-0 win over Border Strikers in the Chibuku Super Cup.
Highlanders will however have to be at their best if they are to come out with something from the match.
The player crisis at Harare City ensures that all the big guns Ronald Chitiyo, Raphael Manuvire and William Manondo will get roles in the team.
Youngster Jerry Chipangura, who was on target, but whose conversion rate was somewhat disappointing against Border Strikers, looks set to be deployed upfront again.
Bambo says he is not really thinking about the opponents Bosso who desperately need to win the game to keep their title hopes alive.
Highlanders, on 41 points, are six behind log leaders FC Platinum.
“I’m not really looking at who is who. All that I’m trying to do is to please my bosses by making sure we win and try to achieve the objectives that we have,” he said.
