KHAMA BILLIAT is set to bounce back when Kaizer Chiefs play Stellenbosch in a DStv Premiership match this evening.
Chiefs yesterday hyped the match using a poster with Billiat, a strong hint that the Zimbabwean is likely to be given the chance.
Billiat expressed his readiness last week and was looking forward to being given the chance against Wydad in a CAF Champions League encounter at the weekend.
Chiefs went on to win 1-0.
“I am back. Hopefully the coach will give me a chance. Thankfully, I am training with the team. I just need to work on my fitness.
“As a player, it’s your mentality and how hard you work so you can contribute to the team,” Billiat told the Club’s website last week.
The player’s manager Godfrey Bakasa also confirmed to H-Metro Sport that the player was now ready to play. He, however, said the player’s chances of returning today lie with the technical team.
“He is fit and ready to have some games. Of course, the issue of when to play lies with the technical team, but what I can confirm is his fitness and readiness to play and also in relation to the poster with his name,” said Bakasa.
The development comes as a boost to Amakhosi who face Horoya in a do-or-die CAF Champions League encounter this Saturday.
The South Africans need an outright win against the Guineans to proceed to the semi-finals of the competition.
The 30-year-old has been out of action since January this year after sustaining an injury during Amakhosi’s 2-0 defeat to Maritzburg United.
And speaking on the return, Billiat’s handler said the player will be hungrier having been on the sidelines for more than two months. The situation has created more hunger for the player.
So yeah, it’s going to be something completely different,” said Bakasa.
Bakasa said it has been a difficult situation for Billiat who went on to miss Zimbabwe’s Afcon qualifiers last month.
“Being on the sidelines due to injury is not easy and especially for a player of Khama’s caliber.
He is a player who loves to play regardless of the match value.
“And like I said before, this has created more hunger because to him it is a setback,” he said.
The Amakhosi star created five assists and scored one goal in 16 games in all competitions so far this season before his campaign was halted by leg injury
