Boehly handed Pochettino sack demand

Chelsea supporters were calling for Todd Boehly to dismiss manager Mauricio Pochettino after the Blues’ humbling defeat away to Arsenal.

Leandro Trossard put the Gunners ahead early on, before second-half braces from Ben White and Kai Havertz handed Mikel Arteta’s team a 5-0 victory.

The home side had 27 shots, 10 of them on target, with Chelsea keeper Djordje Petrovic keeping the score from getting even more embarrassing.

Pochettino’s first season at Stamford Bridge has been a tough one. While they remain on course to improve on last season’s 12th-place finish, European qualification continues to hang in the balance.

All of this comes against a backdrop of more big spending, with £400million worth of new players brought in over the summer. Both during and after the game, fans of the West London club were among those to make their feelings known on social media.

A sackable offense,” one wrote. “One of the worst and most damning losses in the history of Chelsea Football Club. If the owners and the sporting directors don’t sack Pochettino today, tomorrow, or later this week, then I’m not sure they have the club’s best interest [sic] at heart.”

“I’ve been in Pochettino’s defence a lot this season with the fact that the squad was not good enough but this result today was inexcusable,” wrote another. He can get the sack and while we’re clearing house take all these players with you bar [Cole] Palmer, [Reece] James and [Malo] Gusto.

“Any serious club sacks Pochettino tonight,” was the verdict from a third. “If they wanted a project, they wouldn’t have sacked [Graham] Potter after a few months.

“Poch has done much worse than Potter, so why does he deserve more time? Especially when Potter actually is a project manager and Poch isn’t.” – Mirror
