A SUSPECTED bogus land baron has appeared in court facing 14 counts of fraud in which he duped land seekers of thousands of dollars.

Trust Mururi, 55, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Taurai Manuwere.

The court heard that in 2017, Mururi advised Lawrence Gavaza that he was selling a 500 square meters stand in Whitehouse for US$1500.

It is alleged that he went to the said stand with Gavaza, for  viewing, and received US$1200 for the stand.

Gavaza later discovered that Mururi didn’t own the said stand and, when he looked for him, he started being evasive.

On April 17 2018, Mururi misrepresented to Tabuda Moyo that he was selling a stand in Belvedere West for US$1500.

After viewing the stand, Moyo paid the full amount but later discovered that Mururi didn’t own the land as claimed.

Muripi became evasive after that.

In November the same year, Mururi duped Shelsby Maponga of US$10 000 for a 1000 square meter stand.

Maponga paid for the stand through a Nissan Navara, worth US$15000, which he exchanged with Mururi’s single cab, worth US$5000.

After making the payment he discovered that Mururi had duped him and nothing was recovered.

Mururi allegedly duped Amon Maisvoreva, in 2018, after misrepresenting to him that he was selling 60 stands in Belvedere West, near the National Sports Stadium.
