MultiChoice and the Africa Magic channel have unveiled the names of the hosts of this weekend’s 2022 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, to be fronted by Bonang Matheba and IK Osakioduwa.
MultiChoice Zimbabwe publicity and public relations manager Liz Dziva said the awards would be held on Saturday May 14 in the Nigerian city of Lagos, broadcast live to the whole continent.
“Multi-talented Nigerian media personality IK Osakioduwa will return as host, while popular South African broadcaster Bonang Matheba will be making her hosting debut at the AMVCAs,” she said.
“Bonang Matheba is an award-winning radio host, TV presenter and style figure known for her flamboyant presentation skills and her signature voice on South African airwaves. She has hosted several award shows and other prominent events, including 2016’s MTV Africa Music Awards, the pre-shows for the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards and 2016 BET Awards and Miss South Africa 2019.”
Ms Dziva said Bonang’s presence would add a Southern African connection for the eighth annual AMVCAs.
“The two hosts are extremely talented and have achieved continental acclaim, having each hosted some of Africa’s biggest shows. Together they will keep the crowd entertained on the biggest night for celebrating African film and TV stars.”
IK Osakioduwa’s broadcasting career started in 2001 as a radio personality and he became popular for his entertaining style of presentation. He has gone on to host several high-profile shows such as Big Brother Africa and he is the host of the ongoing Nigerian Idols season 7.
The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards have been previewed by an eight-day series of events, which started on May 7 and continue with a pan-African food festival and cultural day on Wednesday May 11, a digital content creators’ brunch on Thursday May 12 and a special gala for nominees on Friday May 13.
The awards night is Saturday, airing live on DStv’s Africa Magic channel from 5pm. A Zimbabwean film,Veza: The Unfolding was nominated for the Awards in the Best Movie (Southern Africa) category. It is an action-packed thriller, which follows the lives of a police force in Bulawayo and was directed by Dumie Manyathela, Rodney Mabaleka and Dakudu -DStv
