Highlanders forward Tinashe Makanda said they are gunning for FC Platinum’s head when the two clash at Barbourfields on Sunday.
Makanda said their target is to end the first half of the season on a high note by winning the remaining four games, starting with the weekend’s game.
Highlanders are 14th on the log with 15 points, 12 behind log leaders FC Platinum.
“We want a positive result from this game. It’s one of the games where you do thorough preparations.
“We are equally good, we can match even FC Platinum, and it’s only that we started slow but we are slowly getting there.
“We want a win at all costs, we will do our best to attain it. We will be banking on home advantage,” said Makanda.
Highlanders coach Mandla Mpofu will be looking forward to impress in his second game as head coach after the departure of Madinda Ndlovu.
Makanda said the game will not be any easy as he said they are playing a team that is on top.
He said they will be cautious going into their Sunday assignment.
“We are playing the defending champions, a team that is full of confidence since they are the log leaders.
“They have more confidence than we do but I am sure we will use that to our advantage.
“As the log leaders they will be under pressure as well and we will keep our cool and focus on matching them,” he added.
Highlanders are still playing catch up, after a slow start to the campaign.
Makanda said they will recover lost ground.
“We still have time to catch up and finish on a respectable position, the league is still on.
“We are not a bad side, we are equally competitive we just need to improve on our finishing and make sure we score.
“Our last third is not all that good, we still have to work on that. Besides that, we are the only team playing entertaining football,” he said.
The encounter is touted as another potential blockbuster considering both teams gear for the occasion.
