BOXING champion Brendon “Boika” Denes is scheduled to leave the country today for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where he is set to fight Ahmed Samir Dawran in a six-round bout.
The 25-year-old is using this fight in preparation for the title defence match set for June.
In an interview with H-Metro, Denes’ trainer Ali “Otto” Phiri said they were ready to rumble.
“The boy is in shape and ready to fight. Boika has been in camp for four weeks here in Harare.
“So in terms of preparation, I am sure we have done our best but you know because of the circumstances, you would always demand more. I am confident that we will maintain our winning streak.
This is a warm up fight for the title defence,” he said.
Boika faces highly-rated Tanzanian Hassan Mwakinyo who has won 18 and lost two bouts, in a title defence match.
The match was initially slated for March 26, but was later postponed.
Reports indicate that Zimbabwe will now be hosting the fight.
Denes will be hoping to add the ABU super welterweight to the WBF intercontinental super lightweight title he won in 2019 and the WBC Africa welterweight title he captured following his impressive win in Namibia three months ago.
He now boasts an impressive record of eight wins with five knockouts and is the one who handed Namibian Mikka Shonena his first defeat.
