THE Cameroonian employer of a Zimbabwean truck driver, who was kidnapped and detained in Zambia over a missing load of fertiliser, has been charged with kidnapping.

Moussa Mounchikpou of Profburg Consultancy, and a driver at the company Brian Chande, appeared before Harare magistrate Stanford Mambanje yesterday.

They were released on US$250 bail each.

The State said on October 28 last year, the duo summoned Tasara Hwata, the complainant, to one of their offices in Workington.

They were in the company of three other accomplices, who are at large.

They claimed Hwata was under arrest for failing to deliver 600 bags of fertiliser to Omnia Fertiliser Company in Zambia.

Hwata was assaulted and bundled into their car, driven to Chirundu Border post and handed over to Lloyd Chisumba, who took him to Mosque Police Post in Makeni, Zambia.

Hwata only appeared in court in December and was granted bail.

He remains in Zambia pending trial.

Anesu Chidenje appeared for the State.
