IS there any foreign club which has provided a home to Zimbabwean footballers like Ajax Cape Town of South Africa?
Well, probably NO!
Local footballers have done well in Mzansi over the years with the likes of Wilfred Mugeyi leading the way and Willard Katsande consolidating their iconic status.
Knowledge Musona was virtually unplayable at Kaizer Chiefs while Khama Billiat also left his mark at Mamelodi Sundowns.
It’s easy for some to believe that the Amakhosi have been the adopted home of choice for Zimbabwean footballers.
After all, this is where the legendary Ebson “Sugar” Muguyo first arrived in the ‘70s and turned himself into a legend.
But, the Amakhosi aren’t the club who have hosted the highest number of Zimbabweans on their books.
That honour falls to Ajax Cape Town.
Thanks to the research carried out by Ad Palmer, we can tell you that 12 Zimbabweans have called Ajax Cape Town home over the years.
This means they could field their own team by merely converting one of them into a goalkeeper.
They can also even afford the luxury of having one substitute.
The Zimbabwean players are Katsande, Billiat, Edelbert Dinha, Tafadzwa Rusike, Norman Mapeza, Edzai Kasinauyo, Milton Ncube, Wilfred Mugeyi, Tendai Ndoro, Gerald Takwara, Thomas Chideu and Thulani Ncube.
