HIGHLANDERS forward Lynoth Chikuhwa missed the only spot kick in the shootout as the Bulawayo football giants were dumped out of the Chibuku Super Cup at Barbourfields Stadium yesterday.

The teams could not be separated in regulation time resulting in the penalty lottery.

CAPS United started off on the front foot and surged into a 2-0 lead in the first half through Clive Rupiya, who headed home a Rodwell Chinyengetere corner kick in the 35th minute. Joseph Tulani doubled Makepekepe’s lead with another header inside the box off an Erick Manokore free kick.

The visitors went to the breather with their seemingly two-goal cushion, but Bosso got their act together in the second half.

They pulled one back through captain of the day Mbongeni Ndlovu, who slotted home from close range following an Andrew Mbeba free kick nine minutes after the break.

Mbeba would level matters through a well taken free kick just outside the box in the 62nd minute.

In the penalty shootout CAPS United converted all their spot kicks through Devon Chafa, Manokore, Ian Nyoni, Chinyengetere and Hastings Chipusha. Mbeba, Melikhaya Ncube and Mason Mushore converted for Bosso, while Chikuhwa missed the second spot kick.

CAPS United will face Harare rivals Dynamos in the semi-finals while Black Rhinos will take on log leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars in the other semi on dates and venues yet to be announced.
