A CELLPHONE dealer yesterday offered $20 for the upkeep of his child.
John Jiri made the offer at the Harare Civil Court where his former wife Grace Chimwiro demanded $300 maintenance.
The court also heard that John was in a business of repairing and selling cell phones
“I am claiming $300 maintenance so that I can be able to fend for our child.
“He is not even paying school fees.
“He earns more than $8000 per month.
“I do menial jobs and I realise little income at the end of the month.
“Our child no longer goes to school and I am facing difficulties in keeping up.
“He left our matrimonial home to squander his money,” said Grace.
In response, John disputed claims made by his wife.
“Your worship, I don’t earn such money.
“I have other six other children that are depending on me and I realise $150 per month.
“She chased me out of our matrimonial home and she took my cellphones,” said John.
Presiding officer Nyasha Marufu ordered John to deposit $200 per month as child maintenance.
