A Chitungwiza man was dragged to court to answer to murder charges after he was reportedly linked to the murder through the deceased’s cellphone.
The suspect, Dennis Makaya, 33, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi who remanded him in custody and advised him to apply for bail at the High Court since he is facing a third schedule offense.
The court heard that on October 20 Makaya who was in the company of his accomplices who are still at large waylaid and attacked the now deceased Oswell Madondo who was on his way from Mbare where he worked.
They reportedly assaulted him on the head several times and he sustained deep cuts on the head resulting in his death.
It is reported that after murdering him Makaya and his accomplices dumped his remains in Chambwa road opposite No. 234 Chambwa Road, Chitungwiza before disappearing from the scene.
Residents discovered now Madondo’s remains when they woke in the early hours of October 21.
Some of the residents managed to identify Madondo to be someone from their neighborhood and a police report was made and the police discovered that all his belongings had been stolen.
On November 1, a post mortem was carried out on Madondo’s remains at Sally Mugabe hospital and the Pathologist Dr Javangwe concluded that cause of death was due to a depressed skull fracture with subdural hematoma.
On December 3, detectives from CID Homicide received information to the effect that Madondo’s cell phone was active on the mobile network and the police made a follow up and the phone was recovered from Nyarai Danisile Mbambande who led to the police to Makaya who had sold the cell phone to her leading to his arrest.
