PROGRESS Chipfumo was humbled after he received a certificate of merit from Divine Assignment at City Sports Bar recently.
He got the award as he celebrated 25 years in the game.
The Sounds of Motherland leader has been holding a countrywide tour to mark his milestone.
In his acceptance speech, Chipfumo thanked the event organisers.
“I have been doing music all my life but I was never honoured in my life.
“I feel humbled as I receive this award today.
“People who organise awards don’t recognise some of us despite our talent.
“I am very aware that I am talented but awards continue to elude us,” he said.
The 45-year-old, who was groomed by Portia Gwanzura of Hohodza Hot Band, added:
“This kind of honour motivates us to continue doing well.
“I will not stop until people begin to respect us and honour us in our lifetime.
“People appreciate us when we are gone, which is not proper.
“We deserve our flowers while we are still alive.”
Event coordinator and Devine Assignments representative, Harpers Mapimhidze, hailed Chipfumo for his consistency.
“It’s very rare that an artist of Chipfumo’s calibre is not accorded the respect he deserves.
“We all know that he is talented but we don’t want to honour him.
“He remains a legend who should be honoured,” he said.
