Chitungwiza man falsely claims house ownership

A Chitungwiza man has been arrested for forging documents and falsely claiming ownership of a property. Nigel Mutambiikwa and three accomplices created a fake agreement of sale to suggest that he had bought a house owned by Lloyd Gwasira, known as Madzibaba Mose, in Manyame Park.

The house had been put up for sale by a local estate agent. Mutambiikwa was charged with fraud when he appeared in the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

He was remanded in custody to Thursday for bail consideration.

The State opposed Mutambiikwa’s bail application after he submitted three different addresses. His three accomplices remain at large.

It is the State’s case that Mutambiikwa and his accomplices acted in common purpose after receiving information that Madzibaba Mose was selling his Manyame Park property.

They manufactured a fake agreement of sale which they used to approach an agent who was selling the house on behalf of Madzibaba Mose.

The State said Mutambiikwa and his accomplices threatened the agent with arrest and used a pistol to intimidate him not to dispose of the property.

The court heard that Mutambiikwa claimed to be the rightful owner of the property and that he had lost US$17 000 in a botched deal.

However, there is no police record in which Mutambiikwa made a report that he had lost any property.
