IN the spirit of celebrating the life of the legendary Simon “Chopper” Chimbetu, his son Suluman will have a special treat for his late father.
He will be hosting a Simon Chimbetu Golf tournament and fundraising show for his father on November 23-24 at Kadoma Golf Club.
Dubbed “Celebrating Life of A Legend”, the tournament will be followed by a dinner.
Suluman is set to release an album on November 25 the same day they will host a Simon Chimbetu Music Festival at Magandi Park in Chegutu.
“This year we have a special treat in memory and honour of our legend Simon Chimbetu.
“We have put together a two-day Golf Tournament and Dinner Gala as we continue to pay tribute to the remarkable Chopper legacy,” said Suluman.
This marks 18 years after the death of the liberation hero and Orchestra Dendera Kings founder.
Chimbetu, who is considered the father of the Dendera music genre, recorded his first album in 1983 under Marxist Brothers, a band he formed together with his brother Naison.
They recorded more than seven albums together, including Mwana Wedangwe, Dendera Resango and Kuipa Chete, before he went solo in the 1990s.
He later formed his band, Orchestra Dendera Kings, where he produced albums such as Nguva Yakaoma, Ndouraiwa, Karikoga, and 2000 Blend, among others.
