CIMAS Health Group has attained ZWS ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification, becoming the first local institution to earn the badge.
The ISO certification was awarded by the Standard Association of Zimbabwe after an audit on the institution’s handling of clients’ information, security and confidentiality.
Speaking at a handover ceremony, SAZ acting director-general, Cosmus Mukoyi, said the certification will improve the group’s service.
“This certification, the first of its kind in Zimbabwe, will go a long way in improving Cimas’ quality in handling personal information from its clients.
“We want to congratulate Cimas for being the first local institution to receive this ISO certification.
“This means that Cimas has conformed to the globally-attained standards in information systems,” said Mukoyi.
Cimas chief executive, Vuli Ndlovu, said the endorsement came at the right time.
“We are glad that the certification came at an opportune time as our members have been asking for a third-party confidentiality.
“As Cimas, we are driven by the quest for providing our members with affordable healthcare while we continuously improve our information security.
“Our Information Security Management System (ISMS) does not only address how Cimas’ technology handles information, but also how our people and processes within the institution handle its members and patients’ information securely,” said Ndlovu.
Cimas chief operating officer, Thando Kembo, said their members should now trust them more with their personal information.
“Our ZWS ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification should reassure our members, and other stakeholders, that their confidential information is safe with us.
“And, that we are compliant with the international standard for ensuring the security of any information we hold related to them.
“We care about our clients’ private, confidential and privileged information and have therefore taken appropriate control measures to protect that information,” she said.
SAZ has to date awarded more than 2 000 certifications to various local companies.
