A 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a housing scheme director who threatened to evict her aunt from the residential stands.

The Ushewekunze Housing Scheme girl exposed the rape to her aunt on Wednesday.

The suspected perpetrator Walter Zishiri (42) was arrested and is expected to appear in court today.

Acting Harare provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa, said the girl was referred to Chitungwiza Hospital for medical examinations.

“Sometime in mid-August 2023 at around 6am, the complainant’s aunt left her alone at home to go to Chitungwiza Hospital with her son, who was not feeling well.

“Her uncle went to his workplace at Gazaland in Highfield.

“At around 7pm, on the same day, the aunt’s husband phoned the accused person telling him to go and check if the girl was safe since he was coming home late.

“The accused person went to the house with a cup of water and ordered the complainant to drink it.

“Complainant drank the water and became unconscious and he raped her.

“The girl was told not to tell anyone about the case with the accused threatening to evict her uncle from his house if she disclosed the matter since he was the one who was allocating residential stands in the area.

“On November 16, the complainant’s aunt moved from Ushewokunze to Nyatsime in Chitungwiza after divorcing her husband and took the complainant with her.

“The girl disclosed the rape to her aunt leading to the arrest of the suspect,” said Ass-Insp Mapisa.
