THERE is confusion over Ralph Kawondera’s number of goals in the league so far with the player giving a different story with what is on Premier Soccer League records.
The debate started off on social media after a Twitter handle operating under Triangle United’s name posted that Kawondera has now netted 13 goals and is within reach of catching up with leading scorer Clive Augusto who is on 14.
“Triangle vs Hwange 3-2 Wayaaaaaa.
“Hello Golden boot Ralph Kawondera added another goal to make them 13 for him,” tweeted Triangle.
PSL responded to the tweet saying, “Kawondera is on 11 goals. Please check your records.”
H-Metro got hold of the player yesterday to clarify on the issue and he maintained that he netted 13 league goals.
“Here are the games I scored, Manica Diamonds, Black Rhinos, Mushowani, Highlanders, FC Platinum (home and away), ZPC Kariba, Hwange, Herentals Harare City (brace), Bulawayo Chiefs and Chicken Inn,” said Kawondera.
PSL, however, maintained that Kawondera has 11 goals as displayed on their top scorers’ statistics on their website.
“Our records show that he has 11 goals. We have since communicated with the club and they said the Twitter handle is not official. They also obliged to check their records with tallied with ours.
“I think the player needs to check with his club and make sure he has correct records. In as far as we are concerned, Kawondera has 11 goals,” said PSL communications and media liaison officer Kudzai Bare.
The Soccer Star of the year finalist, who has done well for his club, is tipped to even make it into the top three.
