THREE people were killed by crocodiles at Gatche Fishing Camp at Lake Kariba on November 18 and 19.
The first incident occurred on November 18 when Shameton Sibanda was dragged into the lake by a crocodile.
A search party was instituted and, during the search, a crocodile attacked and dragged George Mawandiwa into the water.
Mawandiwa’s body was later retrieved, while Sibanda’s body was found the following day.
In the second incident on November 19, Bayton Chikomo was attacked by a crocodile while casting nets, and his remains were retrieved after the crocodile was shot dead by the search party.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, has urged the public to be safety-conscious during fishing expeditions, especially when using dingy boats.
“The victims have been identified by their next of kin as Shameton Sibanda (35) of Lanlolly Village, Magunje, George Mawandiwa (38) of Mahombekombe, Kariba, and Bayton Chikomo (29) of Kaponda Village, Magunje,” said Asst-Comm Nyathi.
