WARRIORS new-boy Tendayi Darikwa arrived yesterday ahead of the important back-to-back AFCON qualifiers against DRC.
Darikwa, who is part of the ‘British brigade’ that also included the likes of Adam Chicksen and Kelly Lunga, finally got a Zimbabwean passport.
He however, won’t be new to the national team as he has twice featured for the Warriors in friendly games.
Upon arrival yesterday, the player said he cannot wait to contribute and be seen in national team colours.
“It’s good to be back. It’s been a long time, a lot of paper work we have had to go through.
“Finally got my passport and now I look forward to the games on Saturday away and coming back on Tuesday in front of the home fans in Harare,” he said.
Darikwa, who can play as a fullback or as a winger, is overjoyed to be able to make his long awaited debut.
“I think for me it’s exciting, I’m just excited now to get going, obviously the two previous games I played were friendlies but now it’s important to come in and help the team qualify for AFCON, that’s the target,” he added.
Darikwa said picking the best team should be the priority ahead of Saturday’s all important clash against the Leopards of DRC.
“I think it’s important to pick the best squad possible, a number of them I haven’t played with them, but I’ve seen they are doing good things in Europe, I’ve seen Khama he’s doing good things in South Africa so hopefully we can get to DRC, get a good result and bring them back here and hopefully get a win,” he said.
Born in the United Kingdom, Darikwa wants to win the nation’s hearts with his passion and contribute to qualifying for Cameroon 2019.
“Hard work, passion, I think especially when the fans see me in the home game on Tuesday they will see my passion and that I’m here to represent and try to help the team going forward.
“Since I’ve been out of the country, finally over here now, like I said it’s about improving the team and moving forward and hopefully qualify for AFCON and take it from there,” he said.
