Godwin Isheunopa, 21, of Ruwa, Gift Jofirisi, 36, of Mbare and Amos Madamombe of Ruwa have since been arrested.
The incident took place at Big Apple Night Club along Chinhoyi Street in Harare’s Central Business District.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the arrest saying the suspects produced a toy gun to threaten the complainant.
“Police arrested three suspects for armed robbery,” said Insp Chakanza.
“Circumstances were that on August 12, at around 0200 hours, the complainant was seated inside Big Apple Night Club when Gift Jofirisi grabbed him by the neck accusing him of being in possession of dagga.
“He dragged the complainant to one of the booking rooms and locked him inside.
“Gift returned after about 20 minutes accompanied by accused, Godwin and Amos.”
Added Chakanza: “The accused produced a toy gun, pepper spray and handcuffs demanding valuables.
“They stole the complainant’s Huawei Y9 cellphone and cash amounting to US$5.
“The accused then called the complainant’s wife and told her to bring US$50 for the complainant to be released.
“At around 0240 hours, they released the complainant and held his cellphone, instructing him to look for US$50 and come back to collect his cellphone.
“It led to their arrest.”
