WARRIORS midfielder Danny ‘Deco’ Phiri has allayed fitness concerns ahead of their decisive AFCON qualifier against Congo-Brazzaville at the National Sports Stadium on March 24.
Zimbabwe senior men’s football team face Congo’s Red Devils in a match they need at least a draw to qualify for the continental football showdown to be hosted by Egypt in June this year.
Coach Sunday Chidzambwa has since announced his 28-man squad with Deco among the Warriors expected to do duty for the country.
There have been, however, concerns over his fitness ahead of the crunch tie having being on the sidelines at his South African side Golden Arrows due to injury.
“I have been playing games. I am fit to play (against Congo) and l don’t have any problem at all,” said Deco.
With Belgium-based star midfielder Marvelous Nakamba ruled out due to groin injury, Deco is expected to do duty in the holding midfield role possibly along with Marshal Munetsi.
Deco believes the current crop of Warriors has the chance to dictate their fate and seal a fourth AFCON participation for the national team.
“It’s an important game for us that we need to win at all costs and everyone knows that and what’s at stake.
“We will give everything to get to AFCON, so the fans must come and support us in their numbers,” he said.
Deco said they need to score early and work as a team to get positive results.
“We need to be organised for this game and make sure we score first.
“We need to qualify for Egypt and we know we have a good chance to do so,” he said.
