CHITUNGWIZA Deputy Mayor, Councillor Kevin Mutimbanyoka, has been accused of smuggling vegetables, fruits and groceries at Beitbridge Border Post without a valid permit.

The matter is now under police and Zimra investigations.

Reports claim the young politician evaded paying duty for the goods, which were destined for his FreshCo shop located at Number 155 Emmerson Mnangagwa Road, in Harare.

Officers from Zimra have since confiscated some of the goods at the border, the shop and his house after placing an embargo on the items.

“I am still waiting for the outcome of the police investigation but quite frankly there is no wrongdoing.

“The police and Zimra officials visited my office on Friday and gave an embargo on certain goods, they did not seize anything from me,” said Clr Mutimbanyoka.

A source close to the councillor also revealed that one of his disgruntled employees, who was fired, tipped Zimra officers, triggering the investigations.

Mutimbanyoka was sworn in last October, after his predecessor Musa Mukweza, was recalled by his political party.
