SOUTH Africa-based creative designer, Evelyn Mubochwa, is expected in Harare tonight ahead of her exhibition on Saturday at the National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe.
The 12-year-old, who stole the hearts of fashion enthusiasts with her Afro Jumbo wear in Victoria Falls last year, is coming to Harare courtesy of the Zimbabwe Fashion Week (ZFW) directors.
Dubbed “Creative Accelerator Programme Graduation,’’ the event is being held in partnership with the Chinhoyi University of Technology.
ZFW director, Marshall Mutsamwira confirmed Evelyn’s participation.
“Evelyn Mubochwa is coming for the event where we expect her, and other designers, to showcase what they exhibited in Victoria Falls last year at the Zimbabwe Fashion Week.
“Now that we are based in Harare, we are going to utilise the platform and showcase some of the stuff that we showcased last year in Victoria Falls,” said Mutsamwira.
Evelyn could not hide her elation as she jets in to meet her kith and kin.
“I am looking forward to the event where I am going to unveil my collection for 2025
“The invitation shows the growth of my brand since I launched it last year and getting an invitation to come back again says a lot.
“I’m showcasing my 2025 collection, which is a fusion of formal and casual.
“It’s something fresh but trendy people should expect clothes with volume and oversized style.”
She added:
“I was invited due to my last year’s showcase in Victoria Falls at the Zimbabwe Fashion Week.
“I noted that one needs to be very creative to be able to showcase at big platforms like this and you must be well versed in knowing the trends.
“As a student, I will miss school, of course, but teachers agreed to help me to catch up as soon as I’m back in South Africa, they are very supportive.”
Last year, she impressed US-based fashion guru Priscilla Chigariro.
She also performed in Maputo during the Mozambique Fashion Week.
Before she visited Mozambique, she dressed South Africa’s new gospel find, Ndumiso Zungu, nine, at the Crown Gospel Awards.
