CHAPUNGU coach Rodwell Dhlakama credited his players for the splendid performance at Ascot on Saturday.
The air force side won 5-3 on penalties against Mutare City in the preliminary round of the Chibuku Super Cup.
The match ended 2-2 in a regular time and penalties decided the contest.
Chapungu takers were Osborne Mukuradare, Edmore Muzanenhamo, Xolisani Ncube, Maxwell Mavuto and Tapiwa Kumbuyani.
The trio of Jeffrey Takunda, Piniel Gumbo and Brian Chinhoyi scored for Mutare City.
Dhlakama said he was happy with the result.
“I am very happy. There are three results which are expected in a match: a draw, a defeat or a win as for me when I prepared for this match I hoped for a win.
“If you are defeated you will be disappointed and I am glad that I didn’t have to feel that way,” he said.
“The team played very well. Most of players who played yesterday (Saturday) have never took part in any league match and I was surprised yesterday that they managed a win.
“This means a lot to me and I believe it is every coaches’ dream.”
Waru Waru will face FC Platinum in the first round of the Chibuku Super Cup at Mandava.
In last year’s edition, Chapungu dumped FC Platinum out of the tournament. Dhlakama hopes history will repeat itself.
“The general perception is that we are going there as an underdog, no one expects you to win.
“Last year we defeated them at their home and I hope history will repeat itself because our desire is to win no matter what.
“We are going to work harder and make sure that we do well,” he said.
