RESIDENT wheel-spinners and emcees at Jongwe Corner in Hatfield shelved turntables for brooms and gloves as they embarked on massive a clean-up exercise last Friday.
The campaign, which is held on the first Friday of every month, was initiated by President Mnangagwa whose efforts to keep our environment clean are now paying off.
As such, celebrities, socialites and ordinary people, have fully embraced the President’s initiative and Jongwe Corner wheel-spinners have been carrying out this exercise even though they preferred not publicising it.
Led by joint proprietor Chau Nedi aka Boss Chau and MC Gudo, resident wheel-spinners comprising Tony Touch, DJ Koss, Fitzroy, MC Kharizmar and Oliver Twist teamed up with residents respectively.
“We have been holding these campaigns ever since it was announced by President Mnangagwa.
“As players in the entertainment industry, we bring many people here at Jongwe Corner who litter the place and we felt obliged to take action by cleaning this place as we are doing right now.
“We can’t wait for the city fathers to do for us when we are capable.
“We were really touched by President Mnangagwa who led by example, kana mukuru wedu atiratidza gwara toto tevera, we decided to follow in his footsteps,” he said.
Chau said they were impressed by the response Hatfied residents have been showing them.
“This time around the response was overwhelming as we managed to clean a number of streets and of course Logan Park which was filthy.
“We also educated people on the significance of keeping a clean environment as well as empowering residents with tools needed to clean the environment.
“It is our desire that people do this regularly and not only wait for the first Friday of every month.
“We also need to impart this to our children who need to be educated.”
Chau, who regularly hosts top entertainers at Jongwe Corner, has vowed to engage some of the celebrities in future campaigns.
Meanwhile, the joint will hosts Killer T this Friday with a number of family shows featuring top artistes comprising Jah Prayzah and Alick Macheso lined-up in the last quarter of 2019.
