CAPS UNITED gunman, Newman Sianchali, came off the bench and netted twice to help his side come from behind to beat 10-man ZPC Kariba 2-1 at Rufaro yesterday.
The win took Makepekepe back to the summit of the log with Chicken Inn and FC Platinum two points behind.
It was a game of two halves with the visitors finding the back of the net through Goodwill Gwara in the 27th minute.
Sianchali replied in the 57th and 82nd minute to send CAPS fans into delirium. Bonface Zuberi had been given his marching orders after getting a second yellow card moments before CAPS’ second goal.
CAPS Coach Darlington Dodo believes their second half performance was a performance of champions.
“One thing with these boys is that they are showing character and good spirit, they believe that it’s possible.
“I think from what we all saw that’s what makes a championship side. The spirit, the hunger, the desire shows we got the intention to win the league, “he said.
He added that they were under pressure but was happy with how his boys put up a good show.
“We played against a good team, very organized. We did put ourselves under a lot of pressure. But after going down 1 nil we didn’t put our heads down, we kept on fighting.
“Second half we had some changes which we made and they helped the team to get the result that we wanted.”
He said playing after their title rivals won added to the team’s pressure.
ZRP Kariba coach Godfrey Tamirepi said they had a good chance of winning but relaxed.
“We didn’t hold on to the lead that we had.
“We allowed our opponents to come at us but such is the game, we couldn’t stand the pressure and they got the win, “he said.
