A HARARE duo was arrested in an anti-smuggling blitz.

Plaxedes Kalulu and Trust Mapfuva appeared before Harare magistrate, Stanford Mambanje, who remanded them in custody to today for bail ruling.

The court heard that the duo connived with Taurai Mhlanga, and Samuel Matengu, who have already been placed on remand, to smuggle goods from South Africa to Zimbabwe, through Beitbridge Border post.

On April 14, Kalulu bought baby blankets from an Indian Shop in South Africa, through an online platform, and facilitated the crossing of 23 bags, with the baby blankets.

Kalulu ensured the bags passed through the border post without being cleared in order to evade paying customs duty.

Mhlanga and Matengu, who were in charge of the bus that was transporting the goods, ensured that they were not declared, and no duty was paid.

The duo was intercepted by ZACC officials in Harare leading to their arrest and they implicated Kalulu, as the owner of the goods.

Mapfuva also bought 100 24 packs of Dragon energy drinks, which he smuggled through the same process.
