Dynamos squad ‘taking shape’

DYNAMOS coach Genesis Mangombe has started reconfiguring his squad as preparations for the 2024 season intensify.

Mangombe secured a permanent role after leading Dynamos to the Chibuku Super Cup glory, while finishing third in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League last year.

As revealed by Zimpapers Sports, Dynamos signed Namibian striker Sadney Urikhob, Temptation Chiwunga, Nomore Chinyerere and Tinotenda Makwinja.

On the other hand, Tinsahe Makanda, Jayden Bakari, Brendon Mpofu, Junior Makunike, Taimon Mvula, and Willmore Chimbetu will not be part of the squad.

Mangombe told Zimpapers Sports that he now has a squad which can compete on all fronts.

“We have a healthy squad ahead of this season. We have acquired new players to reinforce our squad,” he said.

“We are returning the bulk of our players and also we have opted to find players who are critical in some positions.

“We will try our best and make sure they quickly understand the philosophy and adapt to the system.

“We have to push the new guys to adapt to the environment as some of our guys are foreigners while others are coming from lower divisions and they need to be taught how to survive the pressure at Dynamos. If one fails to adapt at Dynamos, it will be difficult to succeed.”

Mangombe is eager to win more trophies for the club on the domestic scene, but he is focused on leaving a mark on the African Safari.

“Of course, last season we managed to win the Chibuku Super Cup, but we are now targeting to win the league. I cannot say we are going to win it, but we are going to fight till the end and also in the early stage of the season we need to do our best.

“Then there are always important cups throughout the season, we have to make sure we do our best to try and win them.

“There is also the CAF Confederation Cup, we need to make our name there and make sure everyone knows Dynamos was here.

“So that means all our fans have to come to the stadium and support us, as we are promising nothing less than an entertaining season as it is time to bring each and every glamour that was associated with the club. So we are working to make sure that our football will be entertaining and appease the fans to keep them off their seats.

“To be in charge of this big team is an honour, so I have to take this job very serious as these opportunities are not easy to get. I have to utilise the chance. So everything technical I am in charge and the biggest aspect of getting positive results is always my priority as it will guarantee my stay at the club.”
