TWO more accomplices in the US$1 million E-Creator Ponzi scheme appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court, bringing the number of suspects to six.
William Link Chui, a digital expert, and Edwinah West, appeared before Harare magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa yesterday.
The court heard that the two teamed up with Zhao Jiaotong, Trymore Tapfumanei, Justine Kuchekenya and Abraham Mutambu, and others still at large, to come up with the Ponzi scheme.
On February 7, Tapfumanei and Kuchekenya registered styled E-Creator Electronic Commerce with the Registrar of Companies.
Between February and July, the gang lured unsuspecting Zimbabweans into investing in their scheme, promising huge monthly profits.
About US$1 million was invested in the scheme via Ecocash.
The gang later collapsed the E-Creator application, disabling the withdrawal facility and locking people’s funds.
Investigations revealed that Chui and West transferred the money into their Ecocash accounts before further transferring it to various subscribers, who withdrew the money on their behalf.
