THE death of Professor Itai Muwati at Madzibaba Ishmael’s shrine in Nyabira, due to poisoning, urgently needs to be probed.
Such an investigation is needed to ensure that the late professor’s family gets closure and the nation also gets to know the killers behind his death.
The post-mortem results showed that he was poisoned.
We are also hearing that, it is just one side of this tragic story.
We are being told that the late professor was badly beaten by some of Madzibaba Ishmael’s followers.
We have not yet found out the reason for this vicious attack on the professor.
Some reports say he had decided to walk away from this cult and Madzibaba Ishmael and his followers turned against him and decided to kill him.
We are not sure what they wanted to hide by killing him.
Maybe, they were afraid that such a learned person was going to spill the beans about what goes on at this cult and, because of his status as a professor, he would be believed by the majority of Zimbabweans.
It is now well known that Professor Muwati wanted to leave this cult.
We will never know why he wanted to leave after he had settled at this compound and had grown his herd of cattle to number 30 at the time of his death.
He was hurriedly buried in a shallow grave at the farm but protests from his family led to the exhumation of his remains.
The remains were later buried in his home area of Mhondoro-Ngezi.
The results of the postmortem, which showed he was poisoned, were only given to the family on Monday, two years after his death.
Prof Muwati’s post-mortem results had, somehow, been kept, or hidden, at Nyabira Police Station for two years.
Prof Muwati’s relatives have been desperate for answers and they believe some of the police officers at Nyabira Police Station were complicit in his death.
They feel these police officers protected Madzibaba Ishmael and turned a blind eye to the horror stories, which were unfolding at the farm.
With regards to Prof Muwati’s missing wealth, Madzibaba Ishmael should be investigated.
The family should have answers and, if it means the end of his cult, then so be it.
Victims of Madzibaba Chokurongerwa should find relief and rest after all the trauma they have suffered.
We expect more victims to come out and speak freely for justice to be served.
It’s quite unfortunate that most of the victims have been brainwashed to the extent they can’t open up and reveal the horror they were subjected to.
The good thing is that Prof Muwati’s family has been fighting for justice to be served.
They might have been ignored by some officers at Nyabira Police Station but their voices are now being heard around the country.
They fought a good fight and this is the time for all their efforts to be rewarded.
All they want to know is why their relative was killed.
