IT’S a measure of how special he is that even on the day that his team went down at Sakuba yesterday, Khama Billiat was the man who provided the entertainment for the fans with his bag of football skills.
He might have failed to hit the target and pile pressure on Lynoth Chikuwa, who leads the Golden Boot Award race, but his deft touches and flashes of brilliance earned a lot of admiration and the respect of a handful of fans who were at Sakubva yesterday.
That is why Billiat remains a box office attraction even though he is playing for a team which will consider it a success if they avoid relegation.
The reality is that if one takes away Billiat’s goals and the assists he has provided, the Miracles Boys would have been deep in serious relegation trouble.
Two goals, scored in similar fashion by Brett Amidu, in the 12th and 47th minutes, powered the Gem Boys to a comfortable victory.
Amidu took advantage of the opponents’ lapse in concentration and fired home the opener.
He then ended the match as a contest with his second goal.
Manica Diamonds combative midfielder Liberty Chakoroma also caught the eye with a strong performance on his return from a lengthy period on the sidelines through injury.
