He died early Sunday morning.

The University’s Communications and Public Relations Directorate, in a death notice, said Dr Tapera died at his home in Mapako, Chinhoyi.

“Dr Taps (Mukanya), as he was affectionately known within the Chinhoyi town and university community, was one of the longest serving CUT employees,” read the notice.

Dr Tapera was the first Marketing and Public Relations Director at the university.

“He was very instrumental in transforming the institution’s brand image into a formidable force within the ecosystem of tertiary institutions in Zimbabwe and beyond,”.

The university said mourners were gathered at his Mapako home in Chinhoyi.

Funeral and burial arrangements will be announced in due course.

Dr Tapera leaves behind his wife, who is the CUT Admissions Officer, as well as his children and grandchildren.

“We mourn together with the Tapera and Chihota families, friends and colleagues.

“We will miss Mukanya’s unassuming exuberance and the jocular fellow’s infectious positive vibes,” said the university.
