EVANS Madziva was arrested for extortion after approaching the general manager of Alijapan, Elliot Chepa, after a court case claiming he was being sought by members of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) for corruption.
On September 13, Madziva claimed that Chepa had bribed the trial prosecutor and magistrate in the case of Gift Karanda to influence his conviction.
On the same date, the two met at Club Hide Out in Lochinvar, Harare, where Madziva told Chepa that the situation had escalated and drawn the attention of the Vice President.
He stated that the Vice President had directed ZACC to arrest him together with the trial Magistrate and the trial prosecutor.
He further told Chepa that he was connected to ZACC officers who were investigating the case and had reasoned with them to spare him from arrest.
He claimed that the ZACC officers required US$500 payment to ensure that he was fully exonerated from the impending arrest.
Chepa went to the ZACC offices to confirm if he was being investigated.
He was told there was no case against him, and a trap was set for Madziva.
Cheap negotiated to pay Madziva US$300 and he was arrested when he received the trap money.
