THE Car of the Year prize has been awarded by top American automobile magazine, Motor Trend, since it first gave the award to Cadillac in September 1949.
Maybe, the people who run Motor Trend could consider an award for the luxury Car Buyer of the Year and Wicknell Chivayo could have been in the running this year, of not for the main prize, then for a special mention.
For how can one’s name not feature when such awards are handed out when one has just splashed over US$4 million on a number of luxury cars this year ALONE?
The financial outlay could even be more because the US$4 million expenditure is only limited to the luxury cars which Chivayo, who is also known as Sir Wicknell, posted on his social media handles.
He has been unapologetic about his love for big fancy cars and this year he has appeared to be on a buying spree targeting some of the most expensive cars in the world.
He has added a Rolls Royce Spectre, three Maybachs and a Range Rover Autobiography to his garage.
And, as if this was not enough, Chivayo, who also publicly displays his commitment to the Apostolic faith, has also extended his hand to donate expensive cars to his church leaders and artists.
On his birthday on Monday, he revealed he spoiled himself with a US$500 000 2023 Mercedes Benz G63 Brabus (G-Wagon).
He also said, as part of his birthday celebrations, he had bought three musicians and one DJ Mercedes Benz cars worth US$450 000.
It means he splashed a cool US$950 000 on five cars on Monday.
“I will also whole heartedly continue to spend randomly on my fellow very, very important Johanne Masowe we Chishanu members countrywide.
“I will also identify one scholarship fund of my choice and donate a small amount towards less privileged children willing to pursue their studies.
“This will be my small way of celebrating this very special day the Almighty God brought me to this Earth.”
