FC Platinum skipper Petros Mhari has heaped praises on his teammates for finishing at the top of the Chibuku Super Cup Group 4 after a 2-1 win over rivals Ngezi Platinum.

The Zvishavane-based side came guns blazing for a revenge having lost the reverse fixture with an identical score line.

In an interview with H-Metro Sport yesterday, Mhari expressed his delight of completing the group stages on a high note.

“It is always a blockbuster encounter whenever we play Ngezi Platinum. They are a strong team with the ability to cause some upsets. We came prepared for them as usual. We capitalized on the chances which we created and am happy that the boys rose to the occasion. Our primary concern was to progress to the next round of the competition and it was a bonus for us to finish as group leaders.

“It is always good to finish on a high note; it brings confidence to the players. Ngezi Platinum has always been a tricky customer to us. Derby games are not predictable. Overall, am happy with the results we got,” said Mhari.

The goalie expressed his wary of the team’s failure to keep clean sheets.

“Yes, every goalie is proud of clean sheets and it is another area which we have been working on tirelessly. Cup games are always with a high intensity. Every team wants to score to progress to the next round.

“It is work in progress. We are getting there. I think we really need to tighten up our defense a little bit. I am extremely delighted that we have made it to the quarter finals and the lads are geared up to do their best. Our target now is to focus now on our next game and try to do better,” he said.

Ngezi Platinum and FC Platinum have progressed to the quarter finals with FC Platinum topping the Group with 15 points while Ngezi Platinum are second with 13 points.
