WOMEN have been commended for being courageous in joining the army.
Addressing a gathering at the graduation ceremony of General squad drill and small arms course at 5.2 Infantry Battalion last Thursday Zimbabwe National Army Deputy Commander 5 Infantry Brigade, Colonel Paul Ngadze said the participation of women was encouraging.
“Today a total of 105 students are graduating and I am pleased to note that 17 of these graduands are females.
“The gender balance on this course is laudable, it is now a norm that our female counterparts are included in all training undertakings and above all gender integration is now not only an institutional obligation but also a statutory necessity,” said Colonel Ngadze.
One of the female graduands Melody Maphosa scooped a prize for the first runner up of Zimbabwe Chaplain Directorate. The second runner up prize winner was Sinqobile Simangalo and the best student Blessing Bhebhe.
Colonel Ngadze further encouraged the graduands to attend more career courses and also to be role models to their junior counterparts who are yet to attend the course.
“May I appreciate your desire to attend such courses and encourage you to attend more careers being offered by various training institutions
“Your resilience, patience, loyalty and dedication to duty is an important pillar for the survival of ZNA in particular and Zimbabwe Defense Forces in general.
“I am quite convinced that as you go back to your units, you will exhibit a high standard of professionalism of the ZNA’s renowned history and I implore you to impart the knowledge you have to your counterparts who are yet to attend this course,” said Colonel Ngadze.
