VETERAN filmmaker, actor and scriptwriter, Watson Chidzomba, has died.

Chidzimba died yesterday afternoon at a private hospital in Norton where he was nursing an ulcer.

He was 61.

His son, Watson Chidzomba Junior, confirmed the death.

“I can confirm that my father is no more. He was complaining of an ulcer. “We did our best to save him but this afternoon (yesterday) he lost his battle at a private hospital,” he said.

Chizomba Jr, who is also an artist in his own right, said they lost a pillar and unifier.

“My late father was a principled man who put his family first in everything he did.

“He taught me to be strong and focused all the time since he wished me to excel in arts and life in general.

“He is the person who groomed me to be the artist I am today and I will be forever grateful to him.”

A former arts administrator at Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton, Chidzomba Senior was credited with the mentorship of most products who came through the centre.

“As you know, my father worked closely with the late Oliver Mtukudzi at Pkare Paye as an administrator.

“He was responsible for administrative work and is one of the people who used to recommend and accommodate all the people who passed through Pakare Paye like Mbeu, Sarungano, Munya Mataruse among others.

“Many people will easily know him as an actor as he appeared on several dramas that were aired on ZBC.

“He worked with other veterans like Aaron Chiundura Moyo and those who followed ZBC would be familiar with his face,” he added.

Chidzomba Jr said burial arrangements were still sketchy with the family in talks.

He promised to update the public once the deliberations were over.

Chizomba Sr is survived by his widow Christine Fero and three children – two girls and a boy.
