A ZIMBABWE Republic Police (ZRP) officer appeared at the Magistrates court facing charges of allegedly changing money illegally at Eastgate shopping mall in Harare.
Tinashe Munhava appeared before magistrate Yeukai Dzudza yesterday facing charges of illegally changing forex.
The court heard that Munhava was caught by other ZRP officers at Eastgate changing rand, United Stated dollars and Pula.
Munhava denied the charges saying that he was not into that kind of business, his wife Betty Munhava was a witness in this case and she told the court that it was her money which her husband was caught with.
“Mari yaanga ainayo ndeyangu R4 450, US$90 then 120 Pula. I am a cross border trader so I had collected this money from my customers so I called my husband kuti ndimuchengetese mari nekuti yanga yakawanda plus ndakambobirwa mari before.
“I called him tikasangana pa charge office and I gave him the money. I also wanted to go to Masasa Park to collect money from my customers so I didn’t want to move around with such a huge amount of money,” she said.
She went on to say that when she came from Msasa Park, they were supposed to meet at Third Street but that is when she realised that her husband had been arrested.
