POLICE have arrested four suspects who were found in possession of FIVE tonnes of copper cables in Mahatshula, Bulawayo.
The quartet, who include a woman, were identified as Tracy Ncube, Tapfumaneyi Muzarabani, Alan Mudyiwa and Hebron Chiyangwa.
They are expected to appear in court today.
They face a mandatory 10-year jail term each, for the vandalism, if they are convicted.
Reports say that a number of thieves, who specialise in stealing copper cables, have been targeting areas around Bulawayo and Matabeleland areas.
In January, a police officer stationed at ZRP Tshabalala was arrested, alongside three others, for stealing copper cables worth US$6 000 from a substation in Emakhandeni.
In November last year, the Bulawayo police and members of the community joined forces in the fight against cable theft.
It resulted in the arrest of nine people.
Copper cables, worth US$7 000, along with other items, were recovered from the thieves.
