ZIM dancehall artist, Freeman HKD, believes that his latest album, Trophy, is a significant step forward in his artistic evolution.
He took creative risks and explored new musical directions compared to his previous album, David and Goliath.
Freeman is motivated by the positive feedback from his fans, although he takes negative comments as constructive criticism.
His previous album, David and Goliath, won four gongs at the Zimbabwe Music Awards in June, and Freeman believes that Trophy has the potential to receive many awards as well.
“Comparing it with the last album, I would rate this one as a significant step forward in my artistic evolution. I always give credit to my team.
“We took some creative risks and explored new musical directions, which I believe sets this album apart from our previous work,” he said.
Freeman said focusing on the positive side keeps him motivated all the time.
“The public reaction has been incredibly positive so far. We are receiving lots of positive messages and support from our fans, and it’s been really exciting.
“Of course, negative comments are there, but to me I take it as constructive criticism.”
He said he enjoyed collaborating with other artists on the album and found it an inspiring and informative experience.
“The collaboration was a good experience. Working with other artists brought a whole new energy and perspective to the creative process, and it was inspiring to see how our different styles and talents came together to create something like this.
“We learnt a lot from each other and I think the collaboration added a different flavour to the album,” he said.
